Organic Gardening Critter Control

Now that gardening season is in full swing,
you may have little pesky pests eating your veggies.
We all know that you did not go to all that effort for those nasty little bugs to
enjoy a fresh tasty meal.
You did it to feed YOUR family, not theirs!!

Here is my organic solution to keep them off your precious produce and also give the plants a little boost!

Organic Garden Spray
10-15 cloves of minced garlic
Several sprigs of mint (catnip, peppermint, spearmint, whatever kind you may have or can find)
Bruise them up before putting them in the jar
1/2 gallon of hot water
1 tsp of white liquid dish soap (Ivory, or some other cheap brand)

Pour hot water over garlic and mint. (like you are making tea) let it steep overnight.
Strain plant material out the next day. (keep the liquid, that's your spray!)
Add soap to the liquid
Put into a spray bottle.
Spray on plants as needed.

This mix is great for repelling lots of different pests and also is great to spray on plants that are infected with certain kinds of fungus.
I sprayed it on my bean plants and it cleared up the "spots" that had been forming, they looked beautiful after being sprayed!
It's a good idea to pretest a small area on your plants before spraying the entire crop!
Rotation gardening also helps to deter certain pests as well. This will help to keep the tomato hornworms from finding your tomatoes! Try to not plant the same thing in the same area from year to year.
If they do find your tomatoes, and the spray isn't working, the best thing to do is to pick them off individually and destroy them. That way they don't keep reproducing in your area.
Happy Gardening!

New Kitchen Motto

Hey hey,, I have a new kitchen motto:
Here it is:
"Hey, at least it's better than Nothing!"

Isn't that just perfect?!

We had veggie taco cornbread pizza for breakfast this morning, and that's what I was thinking when I pulled it out of the fridge,,
and that's what my husband said when he sat down to eat it!
Perfect confirmation!
It actually was pretty good for breakfast!
I think I'll have to be posting the recipe soon!
But, I think I'll post it under dinner recipes,,,,it just seems to go better there...

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog. It is still under construction as you see,,there are not a lot of recipes here,,quite yet,,,
But,, I am working on it.
Hope you enjoy it so far.
I love to be in the kitchen cooking for my family and taking care of them.

We do have some kitchen rules however,,,

#1 No fightin' in the kitchen,,,it makes the food taste bad ( If Momma's distracted, dinner might get a little on the burnt side, and I might forget to add the sugar to the dessert) So,,,NO FIGHTIN' IN THE KITCHEN!!
'sides,,we're supposed to Love One Another!

#2 Always spray the iron skillet with cooking spray when you're done so it doesn't rust.

#3 Close the door to the basement so we don't set off the smoke detector when we're making something deep fried,,,,

#4 Close the door to the mudroom, cuz some of those chore boots are stanky!! (Momma don't want that smell in her kitchen!)

#5 Write it down on the grocery list when we need it!

#6 Always have a plan. That makes meal time fun instead of stressful.

#7  If there is a varmint in the yard, all cooking stops and Momma gets her gun. Stay in the house and be quiet until she gets it.

#8 Always remember to pray over your food and be thankful  before you eat it!

God bless you and I hope that you enjoy your time here :)

Suds N Stuff

Homemade Laundry Soap
These are the 3 ingredients that you'll need

Slice up 2/3 bar of Fels-Naptha soap with a paring knife. (it is very soft)
Mix with 6 pints water in a pot over low-med heat until soap dissolves.
Stir in 1 cup of Arm and Hammer WASHING SODA (in the YELLOW box) and
1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax.
Stir until a little thickened.
Remove from heat.
Add 2 quarts HOT water to a 5 gallon bucket and add soap mixture.
Mix well.
Fill the bucket with more hot water until it's about 3 inches from the top of the bucket.
Let set for about 24 hours.
It will thicken up like runny chunky jello.

This is a low suds formula so it will still work great in high efficiency washers which is what we have.
This amount will make approx 124 loads at about .03 cents per load! Can't beat that!!
The next day, stir it up and fill up a gallon jug (a clean vinegar jug works great)  Use 1/2 cup per load.
